I won't spare you this rant...

I have been using Autodesk Eagle for this whole project so far. I product I rather like and enjoy working in. It has it's quirks, but the free version limitations were quite acceptable. Two layers only, no high density design, kind of perfect, to be honest. Then the other day, after I finished the V3 redesign and had the entire schematic done, I saw this:

Fusion 360 Migration Notification

At first, I thought this was pretty awesome. I love Fusion 360. I use it for all my woodworking projects. One stop shopping for all my design needs.

But it has a limitation in the free version that it seems Eagle doesn't have. Still only 2 layers, but a maximum board size of 80 cm2. That's not particularly big. About 12 sq in. 3"x4" No design I've made is that small, except the Drop In 555 Module. This iteration of the board would be closer to 4"x6", so double the limitation. Not cool guys.

So I boot up Eagle again, and import the schematic from Fusion 360, since it didn't have the limitation. It's on offline mode, probably because it's trying to migrate me to Fusion. Then it pops online and says I have an update waiting. Whether I want to or not, next time I start it I'll get the update, so I just restart it. Get my update. Now Eagle has that 80cm2 limitation too! Ugh. I can't even place any footprints because all the pieces take up more than that, so every time I try to move something I get an error.

I guess it's time to learn KiCad, like everyone else.

So when you see the video, The initial design and schematic will be Fusion 360, but the PCB layout will be in KiCad.
I already had it recorded, and since I made a TON of mistakes in learning and building, so I built a board to get used to the controls.

Plus I think the board looks nicer than the ones I was making in Fusion 360. I've made two versions now. I do miss the autorouter, but it's not a huge deal. I don't think I'll be building anything THAT complicated. At least not in a single board.

Right?

So anyway, a sneak preview...
