C= Plus/4 Futureproofing

The Commodore Plus/4 was an interesting computer, to say the least.

Commodore wanted to get back into the business market, after the C64 became a huge hit in the home market, but it was a gaming machine. The PET was a business machine, and this was trying to get back to the roots. Based around the “TED” or Text Editor chip, they released 2 business oriented machines. This and the C16, which was the lower cost machine and used the safe form as the C64 and VIC-20.

The Plus/4 got it’s name because they included 4 pieces of productivity software. With 64K of memory it was still a pretty powerful system, but the included software isn’t particularly useful, and without a disk drive kind of pointless. But if you were buying it for business you’d buy a drive or two as well, I guess.

But the point of this video is about keeping this particular Plus/4 alive for a few more decades!
