The Beige Mafia

A few days ago, I posted up a picture the the bitbang.social Mastodon server, as well as a couple of Discord servers that I’m on.

I wasn’t expecting much of a response, as usually I get a few likes and on people move to something more exciting.

But this time it was a little different. People stopped and asked me about, of all things, the stands the computers were propped up on.

The Beige Mafia!

So I started thinking…

I had designed one for the Puls/4 that wasn’t even in this picture.

Plus, I was having trouble thinking of a video to put out this week. I’m not planned out weeks in advance, no matter what my project planning spreadsheet says.

So I made it this weeks video. Not the actual evolution of designing this stands, but a 10,000’ overview of what went on in making them. Internally, I called it Part 1, but that is just in case I decide to do another once I make another batch of designs. The biggest issue right now is that I now have them for each of my computers. I will work on a cartridge holder for the VIC-20 next, since I have a few of those, and I’d like to set them up in a way to display them while also being able to use them.

Albeit, I did put it together a little more hastily than usual, and part of that was that the battery in my GoPro died (it was bulging, kinda scary), so I had to use my webcam. The angle isn’t as flattering, but the sound quality is spot on since I could record audio and video together and not have to sync them up after.

Though everything is listed as available in the store… I won’t be making the grey ones until next week when the next spool of PLA shows up. 🤷‍♂️
