New Desk

I've been working off the same "desk" for lack of a better term for a long time now. But it's barely that, it's a conference table that I have a premade shelf sitting on top of to put my monitors in a more comfortable place. And although I'm sure someone will say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it..." I have other plans for this table, mostly as a workspace for my next project, the Neon Sunrise.

So now to work on replacing this desk!
Feeling pretty confident after building my table saw workstation, miter saw bench, and a fancy new nightstand for my room, let's tackle my desk.

Proposed design 1

It probably looks a little off, but that's because I'm designing a standing desk. It'll be just as long as my current desk (5 ft!) but narrower on either side, and have the L shape that I want. I use three monitors now, two in landscape and one in Portrait (on the right) so the riser is designed to keep them laid out the same way as I have them now, but will give me space to move my tower up to the desk level so I can see my pretty RGB lights. Though that's not definite, it may get a home underneath instead.

I want to build it out of something fun, so 5/4 walnut, milled to 1" for the legs, 3/4" walnut plywood for the desktop, 1/2" walnut plywood for the riser top, and most likely, you guessed it, walnut for the riser supports, though some zebrawood could also make that fun...

5/4 walnut can be tough to source though, so I'll have to see what I can get.
